About Us
DTS staff takes pride in providing the best service possible to faculty, staff, students, and other users of videoconferencing facilities and equipment. Staff is available to deliver training on the use of video conference equipment for presentations and the Centra Virtual Classroom program. Centra provides interactive web conferencing for classes, seminars and meetings.
DTS staff also assists OIT in the management of the computer lab by scheduling and coordinating use of the lab facility, replacing toner, paper, and assisting with the use of lab related video conference equipment.
We have the following available for use:
Classrooms: 107, 108, 109, 110, 111
- Tandberg Video Conference: Connect with distant sites to conduct meetings, conferences, and classes.
- SMART Board Technology: Allows interactive writing/drawing on any computer program being displayed over the projector. These markups can be saved or deleted at the end of the presentation. The work done on the computer screen can also be recorded using this program.
- Camtasia Studio: Will allow you to record what is showing on your computers desktop. This recording can easily be edited and posted for your students to review later.
- Document Camera: Allows images of books, objects or other items to be displayed on the projector
- Wireless Mouse: Allows the presenter to change slides from any location in the room and also has a laser pointer.
- DVD Player: Used to show videos.
- Projectors/Plasma Displays: Used to project images and video from a computer, document camera, and DVD player.
- eInstruction Classroom Response System: Presenters can poll the students by asking interactive questions and or hosting instant paperless quizzes regarding the material.
- Wireless Microphone: Presenters can use to better project their voice
Online:
- Centra: Online classroom/meeting environment which requires no specific software but rather only an internet connection. Each session can be recorded and reviewed later on by any participants. Used in many distance education classes.
- Media Matrix: Media Matrix is a program that was specifically designed for streaming internet media to specific audiences within the Texas A&M System. You can upload content such as recordings, movies, or podcast for your classes to view.
- Blogs: Blogs are online journals that allow you to share writing and various types of media with fellow researchers, class groups, and classes.
- Calibrated Peer Review (CPR): CPR is an online system which allows students to submit writing assignments and then critique their own work along with fellow classmates work.
- iTunes: iTunes U is a free system hosted by Apple that enables us to provide audio, video and PDF files and other sources on the iTunes Store. iTunes U allows users to download publicly available multimedia content to their computers, iPods, or other portable devices.
- Wikis: Wikis are designed to allow registered users to collaborate, edit and post information pertaining to class related material.
- Podcasting: Podcast are audio and video files that are made on portable media players.
