Additional Application Requirements

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Outlined below are the additional requirements that International applicants must meet. The requirements that apply to all applicants can be found by clicking here.

English Proficiency Requirements

The School of Rural Public Health requires students from outside the United States provide verification of their ability to speak, write, and understand the English language. The English Proficiency requirements are independent of admission requirements, and may be met one of four ways:

  • English Language Proficiency Verification through an official TOEFL score of 587 or higher, or 240 or higher computer-based, or 95 or higher on web-based, and must have been completed within two years.
  • English Language Proficiency Certification by receiving a Baccalaureate degree following four years of study at an accredited institution within the United States; or
  • Achieving a Verbal GRE score of 500 or higher.

Immigration Information

All application items pertaining to student visa requests will be processed by the International Student Services Office at Texas A&M University. While most students attending the School of Rural Public Health hold F-1 or J-1 visas, there are other visa types that may be more appropriate for individual situations. The International Student Services Office requires the information from Part C of this application to aid applicants in choosing a visa that best suits their academic objectives. This information, in addition to other pertinent information regarding immigration, may be requested as needed during the admissions process. Such information provided will aid in the attempt to provide each individual student with efficient and personalized service.

Additional Forms to Submit

Additional Information for International Applicants (Following Admission)

Financial Resources

All international applicants must supply the School of Rural Public Health with a Declaration and Certification of Finances Form, along with an official statement of finance from their respective bank or financial institution, in addition to the admissions application. International applicants who are accepted must submit evidence of their ability to support themselves and any accompanying dependents before a Certificate of Eligibility can be issued. Because of monetary restrictions in some countries, a full year's expenses may be required as a deposit from some accepted students. When the student enrolls, the deposit will be applied to the first semester's expenses. The deposit will be refunded to those students that choose not to attend the School of Rural Public Health.

Students wanting to attend SRPH in F-1 or J-1 status must complete the Certification of Financial Responsibility form. While this form is not required for consideration of your application for admission, it is necessary for preparation of the immigration document (Form I-20 or Form DS-2019) for the HSC.

Married Students

If you are married and plan to bring your spouse and/or children you must certify the availability of at least an additional $5,400 per year for your spouse and $2,268 for each child. The spouse of an F-1 student visa holder is not permitted to work; the spouse of a J-1 exchange visitor visa holder may apply for permission to work for his or her support only and their children's. Be sure to include the name of your spouse and/or child(ren) on the Certification of Financial Responsibility form.

Documentation

The HSC will accept photocopies or faxes of the Certification of Financial Responsibility, so you can retain the originals for the application for your visa at the U.S. Consulate. You may mail the Certification of Financial Responsibility to the Graduate and International Admissions Center.

International Student Transfer-In Form

An international student who has been accepted to the School of Rural Public Health and is transferring from another school within the United States, such as a language school, college, or university, will receive a Transfer-In Form. The applicant is required to complete page one of the form. Page two must be completed by the student's advisor from the institution that was previously attended. The Transfer-In must be received and processed by International Student Services before a student is able to register for courses within their first semester. Transfer-In forms completed for enrollment in an earlier semester may not be valid and may delay course registration.
